This course has a scenic location in the middle of the South Styrian wine growing region and therefore is wine-themed throughout. It is a local effort, also design-wise, and relatively low budget - probably not playing over seeded fairways, but native grasses. Unfortunately the soil is very heavy, so playing conditions range between muddy and concrete, the grass cover is lacking in many places. Luckily the greens are in good nick and with subtle undulations that are not easy to read.

There are some interesting and even spectacular holes, especially on the back 9, but also some where the design decisions are questionable. Case in point is #15, a very short par 5 that is so convoluted that it could very well end up as a drive and three pitches, thus effectively a par 6. While stuff like that scores high on the quirk scale, it is also a balancing act on a very small ridge and there is no stopping once the slide begins. Other holes with implausible design concepts are #10 and #13, so by the time the elephant enters the room, the golfer is already twitchy.

At the end of the day this course is a laudible effort in a very good location and that provides a high floor with a considerable upside in terms of design and agronomics.
