This course is located at somewhat of an altitude above the Tegernsee lake and affords decent views of the surrounding mountains. It is today the centrepiece of a resort, which probably makes returning nines necessary. Due to the relatively severe site this results in a compromised routing, because not all of the lower holes can be played together. Instead, the 9th hole goes steeply uphill back to the clubhouse, only for the 10th to play back down into the valley and finish the business there. The 14th hole then climbs up to the clubhouse again and so the steepest part of the terrain has to be negotiated twice. Naturally, the cart business thrives at the resort.
With a little bit of effort the course can be walked, though, and especially the front 9 have a great flow to them. The three par 3s are very different and each is spectacular in its own way, whereas the three one-shotters on the back are not of the same quality. However, the 12th is a decent hole, so it can be said that there are four very good par 3s and also four par 5s with considerable character. Together with a bunch of cool par 4s, we end up with a course that goes from strength to strength with only a few connector holes. The difficult site is certainly made the most of and suprisingly it rarely feels like a good 9 holer trying to get out of a crammed 18.
Conditioning, like everything else, is appropriate to the course's duty as the resort's main attraction. While not a world-beater, it is perfect for a day out in the mountains.
