This is a very open course on a gently undulating site that encourages free and uninhibited play. The quaint remoteness of the place together with the sublimely decaying castle create a quiet and rural atmosphere. This is truly getting away from it all.
The first hole has to be ridden out, it is a rather strenuous uphill affair. But once the top of the plateau has been reached, there is no holding back. Many interesting holes follow and, while not world-beaters, they do provide an enjoyable and diversified round of golf. And some unusual propositions are included, after all, such as the monster 9th with its alternate fairways.
Unfortunately, splendid isolation has its price: there have been slight problems with conditioning in the past and getting something to eat or drink after the round may prove to be an adventure. It is worth seeking out the local brew, though.
