The course is situated in a valley and when approaching it from above, it does not look like much at first. But the stunning views reveal themselves soon enough and the golf turns out to be a decidedly entertaining affair. There have been professional women's championships at Losone, although it seems a bit short on yardage for the Tour.
One of the main features is a creek crossing the site length-wise that occasionally widens into ponds and looks quite natural at that. However, it was actually built as part of the project and the water circulates thanks to an elaborate system of pumps and valves. Undoubtedly a minor challenge for Abu-Dhabi-hardened Peter Harradine.
Other than that there are boulders and some vegetation, but thankfully not a lot of rough. The mountains are certainly the star here and not only visually: they can send down quite an alarming breeze. But whatever the conditions, Losone is all about fun and it has that little extra edge that the venerable Lugano and Ascona are missing.
